Glossary of Terms for
Access Control
Access
Action of entry into or exit from a security
controlled area.
Access Authorisation
Permission granted to a token enabling the
holder to enter a location based
on a programmed time schedule.
Access Control Report
Reports indicating the movement (entry or
exit) at each access location on the system
and the users who have passed through.
Access Control System
A system which comprises all the
constructional and organisational measures
as well as those pertaining to the apparatus
which are required for controlling access
Access Control Unit
Device which makes the decision to release
one or several access points and manages
the associated control sequence
User Group
A number of users sharing the same doors at
the same time
Access Point
The location at which access can be
controlled by a door, turnstile or other secure
barrier
Access Point interface
Device which controls releasing and securing
of an access point
Access Point Reader
Device used to extract recognition data
from a token or biometric. The device can
have an associated keypad when used with
memorised information.
ACTWin
A computer application for use with the
ACTpro family of door access control units
ACTWin pro
Client/Server version of ACTWin for use by
simultaneous users.
ACTWin lite
Single user version of ACTWin.
ACTpro
Is a family of access controllers, door
expanders and readers which can be
networked and connected to the ACTWin
application to ease configuration. The
pro controllers support 2 doors directly
and expandable to 16 doors using door
expanders. The configuration can also take
place at the controller which is useful if the
customer does not have a computer or the
computer has failed.
ACT Standalone Keypad
A single door control unit with no links to
other controllers or PC applications.
ACT Smart Keypad
Is a family of intelligent standalone door
controllers with pro functionality, which can
be networked together and configured from a
master keypad or a PC using the ACTSmart
software.
Alert
Request for human intervention after the
activation of an indicator
Annunciation
Presentation of the information to
management or other system
Apas
Access point actuators and sensors.
Examples of actuators are electrical door
openers, electric locks, turnstiles and
barriers. Examples of sensors are contacts,
switches, pressure signalling devices and
door switches
Apas closed
An apas is closed when the access point
does not afford free passage
