Fault condition
Any condition which leads to the interruption
or degradation of the access control system’s
functionality.
Guard Tour
A defined route of a security guard.
Ingress
To enter (opposite of egress)
Logic Anti-Passback
See anti-passback
Memorised information:
Information known to the user
Monitored
Senses the state of the door, if it is open or
closed
Mullion reader
A reader designed to be mounted on the
door frame.
Noise
Unwanted signals present on data lines.
Normal condition
The access control system is fully functional
and able to process all events according to
the pre-set rules.
Off-line
A term used to define communication which
cannot be established between two network
devices.
On-line
A term used to establish that communication
has been established between two network
devices.
Password
A special sequence of characters (letters,
numbers, symbols) that are used to gain
access to a computers operating system or
an application.
Photo ID
An electronic photo of the user which is
stored in the access control database. This
photo can be used for visual verification or
printing onto the user access card.
PIN
Personal Identification Number.
Power Supply
That part of the access control system which
provides power for the operation of the
system or any part thereof
Processing
The comparing of information with pre-set
rules to make decisions concerning the
granting or denying of access to users and/or
the comparing of event with pre-set rules to
produce appropriate actions
Programmability
Ability to receive and store pre-set rules
Protocol Convertor
Data transmission convertor i.e RS232 to
RS485 or vice versa.
Proximity
Radio frequency technology used in access
control, where a token is presented to a
reader. The read ranges can be from a few
mm up to 50m as with the ACT433 Tx.
PSU
Power Supply Unit see Power supply
Pulse
A positive or negative change in voltage on a
circuit
Reader
See access point reader
Release
The signal to the apas that access has been
granted
